English tests for study, work, and visas
PTE has different Types of Test
1- PTE Academic - Accepted worldwide by universities for study and immigration
2- PTE Academic UKVI - For UK study visas and work visas that require four skill testing
3- PTE HOME - For UK Family and settlement visas
A1- Beginner level for spouse or parents, business and other
A2- For extension of A1 visa after 2.5 years
B1- For permanent citizenship and settlement applications
1- PTE Academic
This is a 2-hour computer based test in a PTE center for study visas or work visas that test a person through a four-skill language test which includes speaking, writing, listening & reading. There are 20 different types of question formats ranging from MCQs to essay writing. It is divided into three parts:
Speaking and Writing
This is the longest part of the test covering 54-67 minutes of the test and contains different questions that are used in study or work environments.
Reading
This is the second part of the test and usually takes 29-30 minutes. Since PTE is an integrated test this part also includes writing answers to some questions. This part assesses the person’s ability to read and write.
Listening
This part is 30-43 minutes long. It is a series of audio and video clips that measure a person's English listening skills.
2- PTE Academic UKVI
A Home Office-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) for all visas that require proficient English speaking, writing, listening and reading skills. This is a test specifically for all those who wish to study or work in the UK.
PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI are the same, but PTE Academic UKVI is conducted at some selected test centers only.
3- PTE HOME - For UK Family and Settlement Visas
PTE Home A1:
This is a beginner level English language test accepted by the UK for several family and work visas. It measures English speaking and listening skills at CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for language proficiency) level A1. It is taken at a PTE center with a computer and headset to read and listen to questions and provide spoken answers.
Take PTE home A1 test for following visas:
- Spouse/Partner visa
- Parent of a Dependent visa
- Representative of an Overseas Business visa
- Tier 2 Sportsperson visa
PTE Home A2:
This test is designed for people who are already living in the UK and need an extension of their A1 visas i.e ‘Spouse/Partner’ or ‘Parent of a dependent’ after 2.5 years to prove communication in English at CEFR Level A2. It is also conducted at a registered Pearson center using a computer and headset.
PTE Home B2:
If you wish to apply for permanent citizenship of the UK or a settlement visa, then you have to take this test to prove your English language proficiency level is at CEFR B1. For this test also you need to book a place in a Pearson center and take the test on a computer with a headset to read, listen and answer the questions.
